The Child Find Process
Identification
Identifying and assessing children with developmental or educational disabilities can happen at any age, however there are two key age thresholds.
Birth to three years old
When the child is between birth to 3 years old and is determined eligible to receive special education services, we coordinate with community agencies in the development of an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Contact the district Child Find Coordinator via the Special Education department for additional information.
Three to twenty-one years old
When the student is between three and 21 years old and is determined eligible for special education services, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed by Academy District 20. Contact your child's teacher for more information.
Do you believe your child may be in need of special education services?
In most cases, when a child is suspected of needing special education services, the process begins at the school level.
If you believe your child may need special educations services, please do one of the following:
If your child is five years or younger, contact the Academy District 20 Child Find Coordinator via the Special Education department.
If your child is between the age of six and 21, please contact your child’s school.
