TAG identification and a student’s Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) remains with the student as they transition from elementary to middle school. The TAG coordinator, classroom teachers, student and their families share responsibility for developing the student’s ALP goals. Middle school TAG programming emphasizes and supports the development of self-advocacy skills.
Identified students become part of a middle school talent group and are offered opportunities geared to their specific strength area(s). School exploratory and enrichment classes also offer students opportunities to further their talent development.
At the middle school level, TAG students are encouraged to develop self-awareness, a positive self-concept and productive interpersonal relationships. Strategies become more self-directed and students become increasingly more independent, allowing them to develop their individual strengths and interests.
Exploratory and enrichment class offerings provide students opportunities for further talent development. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Brain Bowl
- Continental Math League
- Dual Enrollment
- Full-grade Acceleration
- Independent Studies
- Poetry Contest
- Single subject acceleration
- WordMasters®
